Metallic Asteroids Go Undercover

Metallic asteroids may prove to be downscaled versions of planetary cores. Scientists have remained baffled by the lack of metal-rich asteroids as original research had suggest.

Recent research has uncovered that many of these special asteroids may have been disguised by glassy rock outer layers that had been attached during space travel. Experts have tested the theory within a facility in Japan, by imitating impacts with a pellet gun.

The research proved that rocky textures attach themselves to metallic cores upon impact, creating an obvious suspension like oil on water.

More research remains to be conducted as asteroids exist on a much larger scale and are exposed to millions of years’ worth of space reactions.
