Moon Struck During Eclipse

The 21st of January proved to be an eventful day for stargazers as they marveled a full lunar eclipse, which was made more memorable by a blaze of light.

Amateur astronomers believe that a meteorite may have hit the surface of the moon at a rapid rate during the eclipse, causing a huge energy release visible from Earth.

Professionals from the University of Antioquia had received a tipoff from amateur astronomers in Columbia and the Dominican Republic with regards to the anomality.

The event opens discussion on the frequency of lunar meteorites and future collaborations between professionals and amateurs alike.
