Organic-rich Volcanoes of Pluto

In the distant icy dwarf planet of Pluto, scientists have discovered red ice believed to have been spewed from the volcanoes on its surface.

According to the research team from NASA, the detected traces of water may contain organic-rich ammonia.

A NASA representative states of the physical characteristics of ammonia, “if you find it at all, it suggests that it has been put there fairly recently.”

This latest observation reopens questions on the likelihood of pre-life elements and compounds existing in remote reaches of our solar system, even in a place far away from the sun and beneath an inhospitably icy exterior.
