(Video) New Horizons Visits The Last Of Our Solar System Planets

July 15 2015 NASA/John Hopkins Media Briefing Is Simply Riveting!

NASA/John Hopkins press conference videos are all on one page, so rather than the direct link I usually provide for other videos like YouTube, this will be a two step process … but well worth the extra click.

Press conferences from as far back as May 2007 are on here, but my excitement is on the July 15, 2015 video re-broadcast on New Horizons.

It starts with a fabulous summary of our solar system from the Solar Dynamics Observatory’s most recent photo of the Sun, to Mercury from the Messenger mission, to Venus from the Magellan project, Earth, Mars from Hubble, Jupiter from the Dawn spacecraft, Galileo for Cassini and Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and finally Pluto from New Horizons.

… and it gets better from there with actual data from the recent fly-by of Pluto and Charon.

To get to the video, go to http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/Multimedia/Videos/Press-Conferences.php and select the press conference you want to watch.  They are all great, but 7/15/15 is the topic of this discussion.  The scientists are almost giddy with all the new info starting to come back to Earth and I think most that follow this are as well.

A great success story so far …
