Black Hole

(Video) Black Holes – One Of The Most Mysterious Entities In The Universe

Einstein’s singularity – a black hole.  Is it really possible?

Did you know we had an orbiting observatory called Swift, or another called Chandra, or an X-ray observatory, or a Fermi Gamma Ray space telescope?  … Neither did I until recently.

But they exist, and in 2008 Swift detected a large burst of gamma radiation that turned out to be light from 7.5 billion light years away, half way across the visible universe.  It was the most luminous object ever detected by humans, actually visible by the naked eye – but it only lasted for 30 seconds.

What was it?

Most likely it was the birth of a black hole, the endpoint of a chain of events in the life of a large star, where the energy of matter gets transformed to the energy of warp space time.  Wow.  We are talking worm holes and science fiction stuff here … simply mind boggling to me!

Bottom line, this is the first time I have seen a discussion that is both understandable and explainable for the why and how black holes are formed … all in the first 8 minutes of the video. Then it gets better after that.

If the theory is correct, it is truly quite amazing.

Given all that, this documentary is well worth the time it takes to watch.  Honest.
